Knoxville Fashion Week: Paulie Gibson - Part 1

The Paulie Gibson "Bang-Bang" collection

Knoxville Fashion Week wouldn’t be complete without a special runway devoted solely to the latest looks in men’s fashion. At the Men’s Show at Blackstock on Friday night at 9:00pm, you’ll find contemporary menswear designer Paulie Gibson making his debut in the Knoxville fashion scene. After pushing himself into designing product categories that he’s never done before, he’s ready to unveil a collection that includes outerwear, suiting and sweaters. Paulie is stoked about his first appearance at Knoxville Fashion Week, and he’s confident that you’ll want to pay close attention to his designs.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, fashion is nothing new to Paul “Paulie” Gibson; he’s been carrying on a tangled love affair with the fashion world since he was just a young boy. “My babysitter Vera was a seamstress, and she made custom apparel out of her home,” says Paulie. “I was with her quite a bit and something was really exciting about how these flat pieces of material became three-dimensional and came to life.” By the time he was ten years old, Paulie was very knowledgeable about fabrics, and that’s where it all began.

Since that time, he has become well-rounded in the arena of fashion. With few outlets for design while growing up in the midwest, Paulie clamored for anything that was fashion-related. Early in high school, he landed a job in retail at American Eagle and later found himself with an opportunity for modeling. A short time later, Paulie was walking across the stage at Missouri State with a BS degree in Fashion Design/Product Development and then heading overseas to Paris for an eye-opening study abroad adventure. “I hadn’t seen fashion from a global perspective until then, and it only fueled my creativity and desire to be a part of it,” he recalls.

His experiences in the fashion world served as stepping stones that led him to become confident in his talent as a designer. “I am so confident in the designer I am,” says Paulie. “I have a strong, specific and well-nurtured aesthetic, and I have all of my life experiences to thank for that.” He finds a sense of pride in knowing that people recognize his brand when they see it.  “I think people see my work and before they even read that it’s mine, they know it’s mine,” he says.

His company’s hub is in L.A., which Paulie hopes will be his permanent residence sometime this summer. Although, he secretly admits that if he were able, he would travel constantly to cities like Paris, Milan, London and Cape Town. In a world full of culture and richness, Paulie explains, “I’d be honored to do what I love to do in any location truly.”

Paulie Gibson is constantly looking for people to join his team and spread the word. Whether it’s wearing it, modeling it, or selling it, there is always room for more “Paulie Boys” and Paulie Girls.” “The coolest thing I can do is carve out a place for my brand in the industry,” says Paulie.
