"Introduction to Fashion Photography" with Marc Nelson Denim & 6:12 Photography

In early August, photographer Eric McKinney of 6:12 Photography had the opportunity to partner with Marc Nelson Denim to help with the "Introduction to Fashion Photography" piece of their summer class offered by University of Tennessee.

The class was led by Marc Nelson Denim's fashion design interns, Paris and Olivia. Paris is a sophomore at UT pursuing her BFA, and Olivia is a junior at SCAD with a major in fibers.

During the lecture part of the class, Paris, Olivia and Eric discussed the topics of art direction, styling, lighting, cropping, narratives and themes, planning, posing and angles both from the designer's and the photographer's perspective. After the curriculum was discussed, Eric led the students in a demonstration of a typical fashion photo shoot with model Brenna Bentley, discussing basic lighting options and posing.

For the final piece of the class, Paris and Olivia gave the students a challenge to select an outfit, style the model and then direct her through a fashion photo shoot. Take a look at what the students came up with!

The class was a huge success, and 6:12 Photography is excited about partnering with Marc Nelson Denim again in the future.
