WERK the RUNWAY: Cycle 2 - Tricia Michelle Ellis

WERK the RUNWAY: Cycle 2 featured a collection entitled "Up 354" by our emerging designer, Tricia Michelle Ellis. The 9-piece collection was named because everything is upcycled and all of the square appliques are cut in 3x3's, 4x4's, and 5x5's.
Through her authentic designs, Tricia feels that she is constantly telling a story. "Through each sketch, each applique and each finished (or unfinished) garment, there is a story about a time, a place, a feeling," says Tricia. "Most of the time, my work tells me a story about myself that even I didn't know."
Currently attending Mars Hill University, Tricia is studying a double major in Apparel & Interior Merchandising and English. For this collection, she sourced her fabrics from Goodwill outlets and retail stores. "As a college kid, I can't afford luxurious fabrics, so I repurposed inexpensive garments and home goods to create the looks seen on the runway," she explained. She used everything from men's and women's pants to place mats and bed skirts.

The finale for the show, titled "Kicked Out of Eden: The 7 Deadly Sins" was a collection styled by Eric McKinney and Missy Young and featuring Adam and Eve's leaf-covered swimwear created by Eric and Missy out of leaves from the Blossom Shop, providing an edgy and high fashion take on the introduction of sin and its many forms.

The event was co-hosted by makeup artist Missy Young and photographer Eric McKinney of 6:12 Photography. Hairstyling for the runway was provided by Mackenzie Lane Knisley, Brooke Crawford and Juliana Stafford.
